Mountain Dreams
Contemporary Ceramics by Yoon Kwang-cho
This exhibition of the work of Korean contemporary ceramist Yoon Kwang-cho (born 1946) includes over 25 works drawn from various museum and private collections and marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in an American museum.
Born and trained in Korea, Yoon bases his work in the traditional Korean pottery known as buncheong, which is characterized by its freedom of design, unusual shapes, and coarse potting. Yoon has adapted this traditional form to create his own distinctive wares of triangular and rectangular shapes, with bold swathes of white brushwork or characters incised on their surfaces.
This exhibition coincides with the 27th Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, Korean Heritage Weekend, and the 50th symposium of the American Ceramics Circle.
