Baba Bharath Singh Dressed

Baba Bharath Singh was a powerful nobleman at the Rajasthani court in Udaipur, capital of the kingdom of Mewar. In this painting, his formal pose, golden turban, and peaceful expression give the courtier a certain dignity. His hand rests lightly on a narrow walking stick, which adds stability to his considerable presence. His solid white robe, however, does little to disguise Baba Bharath Singh's enormous proportions, and his belt is pulled just tight enough to emphasize his protruding belly and rump.
