Saint Francis of Assisi

Fra Angelico

Italian (active Fiesole, Florence, Cortona, Perugia, Orvieto, and Rome), first securely documented 1417, died 1455

This panel showing Saint Francis of Assisi was originally part of a silhouetted Crucifixion group made for the oratory of San Niccolò del Ceppo, a boys' club in Florence. It was removed from the Florentine group in the early twentieth century and replaced by a copy.
