The Gathering of Manna and the Discovery of the Water of Elim
Olot MasterSpanish (active Catalonia), active c. 1500
This artist is identified with works painted in the town of Olot in northern Spain, just south of the Pyrenees mountains. In the late fourteenth century it became the practice in Olot to distribute bread daily to the poor. The tradition led to the popularity of Old Testament stories of Jews miraculously receiving bread (manna) and water in the desert.
