Rodin worked predominantly in clay, a fragile material that dries out easily. The artist had plaster casts made from his clay models, which allowed him to save his work, explore different ideas, and cut-up casts for further experimentation. Jules Mastbaum assembled a group of nearly forty plasters, which reveal the sculptor’s working process.
