Study for a Monument

Auguste Rodin

French, 1840 - 1917

The story behind this unrealized monument is not known. A kneeling female nude cradles a smaller male figure. Beside them is a winged angel similar to those in The Benedictions. The plaster study includes a fully elaborated pedestal, carefully scaled so that the sculpted forms protrude over the platform edge.
