Laborers Loading a Brick Cart
George StubbsEnglish, 1724 - 1806
English aristocrat George Byng, fourth Viscount Torrington, was said to have commissioned a painting of this subject because the sight of working men reminded him of Dutch genre paintings. The laborers posed with a little cart drawn by Lord Torrington's favorite horse, the first he ever rode, who seems to be the real subject of the painting.
