Set of Five Dishes

Ogata Kenzan

Japanese, 1663 - 1743

Also an accomplished calligrapher, painter, lacquerer, and poet, Ogata Kenzan was one of the best regarded of the Kyoto potters. The design of pampas grasses (susuki) featured on these dishes is associated with autumn and the transitory nature of the world.
