The Boy Turned into a Fawn, Comforted by His Sister and Watched over by an Angel

Ludwig Emil Grimm

German, 1790 - 1863

This etching is an illustration of the fairy tale Brüderchen und Schwesterchen (Little Brother and Little Sister), in which a sister protects her brother from hunters after he foolishly drinks from a magic stream and is turned into a young deer. The guardian angel who watches over them in the etching does not appear in the story.
