Vase

This vase’s irregularly textured surface was formed by adding salts to molten glass. This technique, called pulegoso after the Italian word pulega, or bubble, was developed by sculptor and glassmaker Napoleone Martinuzzi in 1928. The vase’s shape recalls those of ancient amphorae (containers with expansive handles that joined the shoulder of the body to the neck), and its undulating handles are typical of those made by the Venini company during Martinuzzi’s tenure.
