Gold Mold

Artist/maker unknown

Image 1 of 21 / 2

Much of the jewelry produced in South Asia is labor intensive. A different craftsman performs each step so that an individual piece might involve a goldsmith, an embosser, a chaser or engraver, an enameller, a stone-setter, and a polisher. The more complex the piece and the more evident the skill involved in its construction and decoration, the more prestigious it is considered. This mold was used to create a wax form for casting gold stamps.
