Woman's Evening Dress and Petticoat
Anne Fogarty designed for juniors and others with youthful figures, emphasizing tiny waists and full, crinolined skirts. Called the "paper doll silhouette," her romantic dresses were typically free of superfluous trim. The designer herself wore this gold lace ankle-length gown to the Museum to receive an award for her designs; the 18-inch waist exemplifies the vision of femininity she described in her 1959 book, Wife Dressing: The Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife.
