Image 1 of 21 / 2
This tea kettle is part of an impressive service made for the third son of Czar Nicholas I of Russia, the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich. His initials and arms are engraved on the silver pieces. Decorated with naturalistic branches and flowers applied over curving forms, the set evokes the elaborate Rococo Revival style that reached its height at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London and remained popular in England as well as France and Russia until the 1870s.
