Woman's Coat

Emanuel Ungaro trained as a tailor and worked as a designer for Cristobal Balenciaga and André Courrèges before opening his couture house in 1965. The young designer soon became known for his avant-garde approach to designing for the modern woman. Ungaro’s use of clear colors and his clean lines—architectural but wearable—made his coats especially appreciated. In this example, the horizontal woven stripes of the fabric are accented by appliquéd bands of rabbit fur to give the flared silhouette extra punch.
