c. 1560
Left Tasset (thigh defense) of Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria
This tasset belongs to a group of elaborate armors commissioned for a tournament that took place in Vienna in 1560. Wolfgang Grosschedel and his son, Franz, two leading German specialists working in the distinguished armor-making center of Landshut, made the group. However, as is so often the case, the artists who etched the elegant floral scrolls remain nameless.
