This armor is part of a great garniture that included over five hundred pieces. It is believed to have belonged to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II (ruled 1564 to 1576). The other related components of the garniture are preserved in the Historisch es Museum der Stadt in Vienna, Austria.
