Man's Stock with Bow

In the early nineteenth century, the new sobriety in men's clothing focused attention on their neckwear. As English fashion leader Beau Brummell noted, correctly arranging a cravat required both skill and invention, as well as an expensive supply of starched neckerchiefs. As the century progressed premade neckwear such as stocks, built on a stiffened lining, offered an easier alternative. This example features elastic ends that wrap around the neck and fasten beneath the large applied bow.
