Dying Minotaur
Pablo Ruiz y PicassoSpanish, 1881 - 1973
Picasso depicts himself as a fatally wounded Minotaur surrounded by a crowd of spectators, every one of whom resembles the artist’s long-suffering lover Marie-Thérèse Walter. The creature looks up at the audience with hand on heart, as if imploring forgiveness for his transgressions. One of the women reaches toward him in a gesture of compassion.
