Atalanta

Remigio Cantagallina

Italian, 1575 - 1656

Etching was an ideal medium for spreading news or recording festival decorations. Atalanta is one of a series of prints commemorating the wedding of Grand Duke Cosimo II, which included an aquatic spectacle depicting the story of Jason and the Argonauts. The only female Argonaut, Atalanta accompanied Jason on his nautical quest for the Golden Fleece.
