Cup
Image 1 of 31 / 3
The decoration on this cup, part of a rare breakfast set, a dark ground with silver and gold designs, imitates the ancient Japanese lacquer technique known as makie (literally "sprinkled picture"). The service was likely owned by the Duchess of Mazarin (1735-1781), a collector of, among other things, Japanese lacquer boxes.
