Yang-dong KimKorean, born 1943
Successfully adopting and adapting his Korean cultural heritage, Yang-dong Kim creates a bridge between the past and contemporary life though his art. Kim’s recent series of works, including the piece seen here, are usually produced in four stages: carving a clay block; taking a rubbing from the clay onto paper; painting colors; and writing calligraphy. The paper that Kim used for this image is Korean and about two hundred years old.
