Ellsworth KellyAmerican, 1923 - 2015
Image 1 of 21 / 2
During six years in Paris, between 1948 and 1954, Ellsworth Kelly abandoned figuration and developed the intensely felt abstraction for which he is well known. Reflections in the Seine I is one of several drawings related to his painting Seine. While the painting is a geometricized representation of the irregular, flickering reflection of light on the wavering surface of the River Seine, Reflections in the Seine I emphasizes the weight and darkness of water (as opposed to surface light).
