Referencing growth, renewal, and loss in her work, Church carves forms that are inspired by nature, drawn from her own garden and from a nearby arboretum in Philadelphia. “Walks led me to closely observe the nuts, pods, and seeds found in abundance in the woods and in my backyard. In Pendant No. 2 I was inspired by these forms and used them as models for weighted jewelry elements that would swing and sway in intimate response to the body’s movement.”
Church considers Pendant No. 2 to be a turning point in her work. It was made for a private commission that provided the artist with the freedom to fully express herself.
