Spring/Summer 1995
Woman's Evening Dress
In 1953, the same year they were married, Rosita and Ottavio ("Tai") Missoni opened a knitting factory outside Milan. The couple infused machine-made knitwear with a new sense of imagination, pioneering the use of distinctive wavy stripes, zigzags, and other graphic knits in vivid colors, and designing their relaxed and elegant garments by draping them directly on a model. In this evening dress, the large, kaleidoscopic stripes of the knit are used to create dramatic chevrons, and clear sequins are applied in a diamond pattern for subtle sparkle.
