Man's Jacket

E. Tautz & Sons, London

1875 - c. 1968

Anthony J. Drexel Biddle, Jr.—diplomat, army general, and Pennsylvania's adjutant general—was widely considered one of the mid-twentieth century's most elegantly dressed men. Biddle had this double-breasted jacket custom-tailored by Tautz's famous Oxford Street firm in 1936, when he was serving as American ambassador to Norway; he may have worn it for entertaining at home, when a meticulously well-dressed man would ensure his apparel was both festive and relaxed.
