Portrait of a Lady
Heinrich Rappost the YoungerGerman, ? - 1616
This wax depicts a woman in clothing from the mid to late 1500s, wearing a black dress and cap with a white ruff and cuffs. Enlivened with gilding, pearls, and glass gems, the sculpture is a characteristic example of wax portraiture from this period. The sitter’s arched eyebrows and faint blush recall waxes by the Rappost family.
