Teapot

Small teapots like the one on display here were used for brewing strong tea, which was then diluted with hot water from a bouilloire, a silver or copper kettle on a stand over a brazier. Red stoneware teapots, produced in Delft at the end of the seventeenth century, were inspired by Chinese teapots that were imported into the Netherlands with tea cargoes. As the popularity of tea increased, so did the demand for these teapots.
