Coffee Pot

Samuel Margas

English (active London), active 1715 - c. 1730

Image 1 of 31 / 3

The form of this coffeepot represents one of the earliest surviving English shapes for such wares: a conical body with a straight spout. This design persisted, with variations, into the 1720s. The coat of arms engraved on the side was probably added after the original date of manufacture and appears to be that of Hamilton impaling Goodenough.
