Woman's Gloves

Artist/maker unknown

Gloves, the finishing touch to women's formal and outdoor ensembles, were usually plain in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In the late eighteenth century, however, kid gloves could be embellished with printed designs; on this charming pair, insects, feathers, and vines form a band on the cuffs and a courting scene unfolds on the back of the hands.
