Siphon
Image 1 of 31 / 3
Wine siphons, used for decanting wine, were produced from about 1750 until the early nineteenth century. One type of siphon took the form of a U-shaped tube and a pump, similar to a small version of a bicycle pump. The pump helped start the flow of wine from the bottle to the decanter. The tap ensured that the decanting procedure could be quickly halted when the dregs and sediment were reached.
