An armor garniture is a complete suit of armor with a set of exchange elements designed to adapt the basic unit to different uses, such as tournament or battle.
This armor is part of a great garniture that included over five hundred pieces. It is believed to have belonged to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II (ruled 1564 to 1576). The other related components of the garniture are preserved in the Historisches Museum der Stadt in Vienna, Austria.
