This is a study for the right-hand side of a mural for All Angels' Church in New York City. Oakley was inspired by the crowded compositions and gilded halos of medieval painting. In 1902, the success of Oakley's murals, stained glass, and mosaics for All Angels' led to the most important commission of her career: murals for the new Pennsylvania state capitol in Harrisburg.
