For this print, one of a pair, Augustin de Saint-Aubin casts himself and his wife as characters in an erotic tale in which a young man says goodbye to his lover after a rendezvous. Since Saint-Aubin and his wife were middle-aged by the time the prints were made, the artist used earlier portraits he had made of Louise-Nicole and himself.
