"PH-5" Lamp

The design of this lamp is based on architect Poul Henningsen's studies of a shade's function-to intercept, direct, and give tone to light. Henningsen first experimented with these principles in a series of table and hanging lamps he created for the Danish pavilion at the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts) in Paris. This design, along with others, was awarded a gold medal at the exposition, and formed the basis of the PH lamps subsequently manufactured by Louis Poulsen.
