This chalk drawing, applied over a charcoal preliminary sketch, is on a blue paper that has now shifted to green. The paper provided a mid-tone for the artist as he blended the chalks with a stump of tightly rolled paper. He then overlaid the blended areas with fine parallel lines of black and white chalk.
