Neil Winokur is both present in and absent from this brightly colored, multipart self-portrait. The title of the series suggests the ensemble is autobiographical, and the artist’s face appears in three of the pictures, but we do not know exactly how photographs of isolated objects connect to tell a larger story. While Winokur’s use of a standardized point of view and color-saturated backdrops makes his activity in the studio evident, it gives little insight into his emotions.
