Time Is a River
Paul ThekAmerican, 1933 - 1988
For a quarter century Paul Thek's art was concerned with time, dwelling on subjects such as clocks, newspapers, calendars, and astronomical phenomena that symbolized the mysteries of the human condition. While consistent with this line of thought, Time Is a River-the first in a series of six paintings on newspaper-is a poignant meditation on death, created in the months before the artist died of AIDS.
