Joseph Shoemaker RussellAmerican, 1795 - 1860
Joseph Shoemaker Russell was a self-taught artist from New Bedford, Massachusetts, active in Philadelphia. His rare watercolors give a vivid glimpse of mid-nineteenth-century life in the city, in this case showing the interior of the boarding house the Russell family moved into in 1853.
