Spice Box
Artist/maker unknownThis spice box is the only known example to have retained parts of its original contents of small keepsakes, jewelry, and needleworks. Originally owned by James Shinn (died 1751), the patriarch of an influential New Jersey family, the box, and what it contained, was inventoried after Shinn's death by his heirs, who were able to identify the eighteenth-century owners of many of the articles.
