Explore art related to text and language during Curatorial Fellow Em Dombrovskaya’s tour of Brand X Editions: Innovation in Screenprinting. We'll learn about prints by Deborah Kass, Glenn Ligon, Adam Pendleton, and Mickalene Thomas. After you will decorate small posters of banned book pages in an art-making project inspired by what we’ve learned.Â
Early screenprinting produced text and images for ads, political posters, and everyday goods. In the 1930s, artists adapted it into a scrappy medium for personal and political expression. Many artists in this exhibition build on this legacy by employing text to confront power, affirm identity, and question the world around them.
