1765
Pocketbook
Pocketbooks like this one were used by men and women in the mid and late 18th century to carry currency, papers, and personal valuables. This interesting example of the form, with its large and bright tent-stiched flowers, bears initials and the date 1765 on the interior. The pocketbook has descended through various lines of intermarriage and inheritance in the Morris, Dury, Wistar, and Wheeler families of Philadelphia.
