Lava Vase
This vase exhibits characteristics of Tiffany’s “lava” glass, made to resemble molten rock by overlaying a transparent amber body with a thin coating of cobalt blue enriched with gold iridescence. The multiple layers caused difficulties in annealing (slowly cooling the glass to make it stronger), which led Tiffany to restrict production to a period in 1907 and another in 1915.
