The Park Bench
Horace PippinAmerican, 1888 - 1946
The Park Bench was among Pippin’s last paintings. Some feel that the solitary man is a self-portrait showing the artist in a reflective state of mind. However, the composition probably was inspired by a West Chester resident who liked to sit on a bench in Everhart Park, just a few blocks from Pippin’s home.
