Jin Eui Kim creates an optical illusion through the color bands decorating this piece. He follows the principal that lighter color tones expand the shape of an object while darker ones cause it to shrink. In this way Kim fools the eye, causing viewers to see a shape that does not exist.
Kim’s mastery of hand skills and controlled body movement is evident in this work. Its perfect symmetry in shape and design rivals items made by machines.
