Artist/maker unknownJapanese connoisseurs ordered this type of porcelain ware from the Jingdezhen kiln in China during the late seventeenth century. Copies of Shonzui wares were often produced in Japan; this example was made in Kyoto. The distorted, shoe-shaped bowl was originally favored by tea masters.
