Bowl
Silver bowls were ubiquitous in the mid-eighteenth century, but mostly devoid of stylistic attributes. Here, the florid Rococo shield surrounding the arms of Lardner and Branson boldly announces the fashionable taste of the bowl's owner and maker. Both Lynford Lardner (the owner) and Philip Syng, Jr. (the maker) served as directors of the Library Company of Philadelphia.
