Woman's Stomacher and Collar
Artist/maker unknownIn the eighteenth century, the conical shape of women's torsos was reiterated in the triangular stomachers pinned to fill in the open bodices of fashionable, full-skirted gowns. This stomacher has an unusual matching collar to frame the face and further emphasize the taper of the torso. The exquisitely embroidered pictorial motifs and gold dimensional stitchery are the height of Rococo refinement.
