Artist/maker unknownThis cradle is a rare surviving example of an expensive, everyday cradle from the Renaissance. The three coats of arms—identified variously over the years—indicate that the child intended to occupy it was the offspring of families of consequence. Originally, much of the surface of the cradle was enlivened with gold and brightly painted decoration.
